Won a Gold medal at NZ Pride In Print Awards

Heya all! Well this weekend has been an exciting one! Apart from my birthday on Sunday, I was blessed with news that a book I have designed has won a Gold Medal at the Pride In Print awards 2008! It also got into the TOP 6 Supreme awards with remarks from the judges as “Outstanding design, materials and print produced a superb result.” This was a book commissioned by the Waimakariri District Council to commemorate Passchendaele – World War One, and also to cement the relationship with the District and Zonnebeke. I was fortunate enough to design this fantastic book, where I sought to bring history back to life in vintage paper textures and old photographic montages. Verve Digital, who did a fantastic in printing the book, provided me with sound print and binding ideas and had let me know prior that they would enter the book into Pride In Print Awards. Even though the award won’t be sitting physically with me, it was great that the book had my design detail and it will surely be displayed in my new web site. Which reminds me, I need, absolutely MUST, design my new website soon. Lovely Mat’s been on my case about it, and I know he is right, time for site revamp! I want the site to look more like I’m a freelancer, and my work to be more prominent, a bit of room for blog and photos to post babble and crafty projects!

So anyway that’s the big news for my weekend. Oh, and my birthday was fantastic, got lots of goodies from Mat (girls don’t be jealous, who gets winter black leather boots for their birthdays???!) and went for a boat cruise out to Diamond Harbour for a sunny picnic, then went for a drink and chat while the boys watched the league, before a dining a gorgeous meal out with my family. We had crayfish, spicy Sechuan chicken, sizzling black pepper beef, and my family “surprised” me with a delicious light creamed green tea birthday cake. (I say suprised in quotes because I saw the cake box in the car before we went into the restaurant!). I swear my waistline has expanded a few inches this weekend, but oh well, what can I say – no? No way! Right I think I’m starting to blabber a bit now so that’s enough for my update today!
