Settling into my new job

Wow I can’t believe the last post I did was in July! Coming back from my Hong Kong holiday in May seemed so long ago and Christmas is in less than 3 weeks! I thought about what to write today, and I thought the biggest change so far is going into my new job as a web designer. I had been thinking about a new career challenge for a while now, and being so comfortable at work was getting to the point of ‘uncomfortable’ because I was craving the challenge and excitement of doing something different. It sounds bizarre that I would get into web, I mean I had done a few websites and my skills were slowly developing, but I knew that once I got my head in there at least 30 hours a week, I would advance. And I’m glad to say I can see the change.

My old boss thought that the web direction would be greatly suitable for me. I had been trying for over a year to critique my work, but getting not very far ‘cos no one else could pick out the glitches. And now I got what I wanted – plus and minus some. 2 years is the longest I’ve been with a company so far, and while I maintained my mantra of learning as much as possible by alternating jobs (going part-time and then doing freelance and teaching), I still made a lot of good friends there. And I think when I first changed, I felt like part of ‘me’ was left there too. So anyway while I’m learning things like X and Y coordinates, differentiating between presentation and content, and god-forbidden margins in IE, I do miss my old environment…

But, I wanted a fresh challenge, and I know this will grow me. Change is good. Ooh, and did I tell you I am growing my flash skills too? Even though I taught Flash Animation, it seems like a different story when designing intro movies for websites. I was quite nervous about it, but I’m learning to just be patient with myself, I can’t learn it all in one day. God I have to stop being so hard on myself, really!

Mm anyway I’m thinking of redesigning Sevenzest website, looking and thinking of inspiring fresh ideas. Anyone got any? :)
