we talk a little nonsense

I'm off to Hong Kong!

Yay! A holiday for me at last! It’s been over a year since I’ve treaded the bustling urban city I once called home. And the great thing is I’ll be escaping cold NZ weather for 2 weeks to be drenched in hot, sticky air. It won’t be the most tantalising experience since I’m not very accustomed to intensive heat (seems to get me a lil grumpy), but it’ll be a neat experience and I can’t wait! A week to go of freelance and work before I head off with my partner.

Anyway apart from that exciting news, a lot has happened in terms of career moves and design projects. Currently a lot more brand development exercises have come through the door at Sevenzest. It’s becoming a lot more easier to manage projects and the success of the logos are increasing my confidence. For a designer who didn’t take Graphics at Vis Com it’s been a real stepping stone. (I wanted to do better but since my marks weren’t that great I decided to concentrate with what my scores said I was better in.)

At other role I’ve been working on revamping a VIP client’s advertising and got great feedback from the Sales Executive and MD which was awesome. I designed a proposal to the client, stating on the problems I inspected was detrimental to their marketing, and then wrote another page listing the solutions for future advertising directions, as well as a couple of designed examples. This would be a classic example of where I decided to exceed people’s expectations of me and got rewarded for it. It certainly felt great to have my boss notice, and to see my initiative be rewarded. I think I was most impressed that I was ‘only acting professional’ on my behalf – after all, I had to back up my ideas on why I designed what I did, so why not tell them about it?

Otherwise on the topic of freelancing I’m actively looking for a developer/programmer to start contracting out some of my web contracts, and I think I’ve found the company. We’re still in negotiation, and I’m keeping the faith and trust that I can work with an overseas firm. Cross fingers XX.
