3 to celebrate

“Advertising is not just a pretty picture. I am talking to consumers – ones that exist in multitudinal demographics and psychographics. Hence I’m given the permission to use bright, sometimes clashing colours and (gasp!), outlined type.”

What’s it like being 23? Birthday blues or the sweet smell of maturity? Other than celebrating it three times in total (Saturday night karaoke and chinese with the Whanau; wednesday birthday night showered with exotic flowers from my man + Thai dinner & champagne, and then a subsequent catch up with friends at Longshot bar this Saturday).

I’m positive that I can also celebrate at least 3 developments in my design career. Design Dev.1) Design + Advertising is not just a pretty picture. 3 weeks here at the ChCh Star has influenced a couple of stylistic outbreaks from my usual ‘minimal=better’ attitude. I am talking to consumers – ones that exist in multitudinal demographics and psychgraphics. Hence I’m given the permission to use bright, sometimes clashing colours and (gasp!), outlined type. Please note for the discipined minimilists: getting a healthy dose of this type of design outbreak is quite exhilarating though potentially dangerous!

Design Dev.2)Communication is the key to preventing client loss. I shouldn’t need to stress (ie. no artwork, no pay, too many design/stylistic changes at the end, client freaks out that I don’t care, no $, and funnily enough – thinking you are out to con them because they can’t find your number so they wait for you to call but you don’t)... if I could always communicate frequently during the process of contracted work. At least I know the consequences if I don’t take upon my duty to be the proactive one.
